How is horse racing even allowed to be a sport?

It's completely un ethical.....ive read numerous articles where they're like "it was only a minor shin splint" is'nt this obviously caused by the trainer exhausting it..? and then after barbaro's ankle shattered? how has this not been addressed? does anyone agree with me? i can't belive no one's fighting to ban horse racing.

2. Horse racing has been around as long as there have been horses. Over the centuries of the sport the number of injuries is no higher than that of any other sport. If we are going to ban sports because athletes get injured or die we will have to ban every sport played today.
3. i dnt know to me it shouldnt be because they making the horses run like there crazy and the horses should be able to run freely

5. It is completely unethical and more blatantly abuse. It is no great wonder to the other people in the horse world (those of us who have brains) why these horses are lame, have bad feet, and are continually unsound. First of all horses don't full ymature till they are five years old. These horses are racing at two and three under extreme pressure and stress and that doesn't do miracles for their toothpick think legs. Secondly they continue breeding these lame horses to one another and the unsoundness is passed down genetically. It hasn't been adressed because there is to much money involved. I mean the government likes it because of the taxes, race horse people make big bucks which equal high priced attorneys, and people like it because they can gamble and make money. I totally and whole heartedly agree with you, as an avid equestrian who has ridden many off the track thoroughbreds and has an Appendix QH (TB x QH cross) I can personally tell you race horses are almost completely ruined after racing, they have bad manners, bad feet, and bad habits that will drive you insane. Even if your TB isn't off the track they still have trouble with staying sound (my horse must have special shoes and have pads in the shoes because she doesn't grow a 'frog' in her hooves). Finally no one is fighting it because horse racing is this huge ugly industry no one wants to tangle with, all we can do now is spread the word and hopes this beast starts to slowly die away.
